About Jim

Welcome to ADD/ADHD ACHIEVER- a forum for all of us with ADD/ADHD to share experiences, get and give help, and a resource for achieving success.

I have ADHD. I was originally diagnosed with ADD, because when I was finally diagnosed at around 26, I checked all the boxes except hyperactivity. I can be a little under reactive at times and laid back. Since I have begun this website and researched about the condition, I have realized that there were other symptoms that I fit in the hyperactive category for.

But this diagnosis finally, through a path of research gave me an explanation for why I was the way I was and why so much in my life had gone wrong. From the distracted part, why I:

  • couldn’t focus for very long unless interested
  • hyper focused on things I was very interested in (perseverance)
  • was mistake prone
  • was spacey
  • was a slow reader
  • had trouble listening
  • was unorganized and messy
  • started but didn’t finish so many things
  • quit so easily
  • became bored easily
  • procrastinated
  • had short term memory
  • was not able to get some jokes
  • had trouble reading social cues

From the Hyperactive side, why I:

  • became easily frustrated which turned to quick anger
  • was impulsive
  • blurted out without thinking
  • was inpatient
  • figidited
  • interupted others
  • talk too much

But with the original diagnosis and my research came very little in the way of help or real understanding of what ADHD was. I was given just a few tools that, ironically, were easily defeated by ADHD itself. After many failed businesses and multiple jobs (some I was fired from), until my marriage was on the rocks, and several other things were getting worse, that I had decided to really research just what this “monster” really was and how to tame it. I, also, had 3 sons with ADHD to raise.

I learned some great benefits of ADHD when my job at the time required and ignited them like:

  • ability to multitask
  • intelligence
  • quick whit
  • passion
  • perseverance
  • ability to think fast
  • creativity

Even now, I’m still unable to pull it all together to be successful not only in business, but also in all aspects of life. I know I’m not the only, and I want others who feel powerless by ADD and ADHD feel empowered by it.

I want to create a community of people who either have, or suspect, that they have ADD or ADHD to come together to share stories, ask and answer questions, be each other’s cheering section, and learn all about ADD and ADHD. I want to learn all I can till I’m an expert, so that someday I may even become a coach. And it needs to be done in a positive, constructive manner.

I need to highly stress this- YOU NEED A DOCTOR’S DIAGNOSIS. Whether you suspect you have ADHD/ADD, only a doctor canĀ  out rule or include other conditions. It is very important on how you get any kind of treatment.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

All the best,

Jim Crandall
